Kathelijn van Dongen..

...decided, after finishing her Master in Law to follow her musical heart. In 2004 she started her study Solo singing at the Fontys Academy of Music in Tilburg. She was coached in singing en interpretation lessons by Frans Fiselier, Hanneke Kaasschieter and Xenia Meijer. She graduated in 2008 with distinction. At the moment she is studying for her Master degree. Her vocal coaches are Maria Acda-Maas and Edward Hoepelman. Kathelijn took part in several masterclasses from Roberta Alexander, Margreet Honig, Charlotte Margiono, Paula de Wit and Kelvin Grout. She took drama lessons from Elsina Jansen and Marc Krone.

She made her concert debut with the Brabants Orchestra where she sang the soprano solo in the Magnificat by J.S. Bach under Reinhard Goebel. She worked also with directors like Louis Buskens, Martien van Woerkum, Paul Valk, Johan Rooze, Harold Lenselink en Aad van der Hoeven.

Other oratorio repertoire includes Vivaldi (Gloria, Magnificat en Beatus Vir), Händel (Dixit Dominus), J.S. Bach (Johannes Passion en verschillende cantates) and in masses by Rossini (Petite Messe solennelle) and Haydn, the Stabat Mater by Haydn and the Ceremony of Carols van Britten.

In opera and operette she sang roles like Suzanne in Les Saltimbanques (Gannes), Belinda and Second Witch in Dido and Aeneas (Purcell), Monica in the Medium (Menotti), Blanche in Le dialogue des Carmelites (Poulenc).

Kathelijn is an allround singer. Also she likes to sing light music, like vocal jazz. So she was a member of the vocal quintet Femulous for a while. With Femulous she made the theatershow ‘Stoelendans’ in 2005 and Also they won the first price in 2004 in the Internationaal Vocal Group Contest. With Femulous she also took part in masterclasses of  The New York Voices.

Kathelijn has her own practice in learning to sing, where she loves to teach her students with dedication.

With Daniella Buijck she forms the Duo Udjalino.
